October 18, 2012: Letter E and Colors & Shapes

Our theme was Colors and Shapes and the Letter of the Week was Letter E. After reading about all the E things "Little E" found to put in his box, we had an Easter Egg Hunt in the backyard. Makena even put some in Jojo's basket while he was searching for eggs.:)

When we opened the eggs, some were filled with pictures of things starting with the letter E, such as eagle, elephant, etc.  We practiced writing the Letter E and making it with Popsicle sticks, too. Everyone did a really great job!
We had a great time talking about shapes and colors. Carson even taught us a Rainbow song that he knew. We used the blocks to divide them into groups of the same shapes, then scattered them and grouped all the same colors together. I was so impressed with these smart kiddos!
We had an exciting science project using colors! First we took turns dropping food coloring into cups of vinegar. We even mixed some colors together to make green and orange, but guess what? Camryn reminded me that we can make purple if we mix red and blue together! She said her mom taught her that.:) After we had all our colors ready, we used the droppers to drop the colored vinegar onto our plates of baking soda and watched it fizz and bubble up! They thought it sounded like the ocean.
